I was born in British Columbia though I was raised in the village of Fort Simpson in the Northwest Territories, Canada. The village is located in the Dehcho Region and in the traditional Dene language the village is known as Liidlii Kue which translates into “place where rivers come together” and is in reference to the Makenzie and Liard Rivers. The area is mainly surrounded by dense forest with the occasional cliff face along the river and more so when getting closer to the Nahanni National Park. My father was born in the village and my mother was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and along with her siblings, she is a first-generation Canadian with German heritage. I am a Dene First Nation male and am currently attending my third year of the Tourism Management Degree at Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia. Along with my studies, I am a part-time worker at the Sahali Liquor Store. I am considered a gen-z and according to the Canadian Explorer Quotient, I am a cultural explorer. Though it is hard to say whether or not I will stay within that profile as I have had very few chances to travel outside of necessity let alone to travel for the sake of traveling while not being tied down to a schedule or limited by a to-do list. Though I am more than willing to begin exploring. I have an interest in traveling to Australia, New Zealand, and the Nordic countries as I have always been intrigued by their Indigenous cultures and how world events have affected them throughout the years as well as simply experiencing their traditions and learning the history of each location. Overall, I am willing and raving to go even though I am relatively new to the world of travel and experiences though hopefully that will change moving forward.
